Funnies and a 5K

This week, we got a little funny I guess. Looking back at the pictures, I guess I only took pictures of the weird things Harrison did.

Like, wear a Robot costume (he loves Bot from Team Umizoomi) and wear my high heels.

Or, falling asleep sitting up in his rocking chair. There is a big red mark on his face too and I think his head was on the arm rest for a while before I found him like this!

And last but not least trying to catch a workout ball in a small strainer. And when that doesn't work, we just walk around with it on our own head (it is a better fit!)

And on a more serious note, but still very fun, Jeff and I were able to run a 5k race together. The kick off for the Houston Rodeo started yesterday (2/26) and Jeff and I decided to run with some 13,000 other people. It was crazy and crowded, but I was excited to run a race again. This was my first race since Harrison was 5 months old and it felt good. I had a hard time at the end, but I finished and ran the whole thing. I finished in just over 32 minutes and Jeff (who finished before me) was waiting for me at the finish line.

Here we are back at home after the race. After making an effort to bring my camera and take pictures, I realized when we were downtown that the battery was dead. Oh well, it was still a lot of fun. Now, for the next race...

A morning at the park

It has been so nice all week and Saturday was no exception! So, we decided to plan a little outing and head to a local botanical garden. It's about time I start showing Dillan a little bit of Houston. The day was beautiful, but it was a little early for all the plants and flowers to be in full bloom, but we still enjoyed a nice walk through the park.
Jeff smiling the Harrison smile!
Checking out the "crocodiles". There are no crocodiles in that water, but he thinks he might spot one!
LOVE this picture. They were looking out over a steep ledge and Harrison had to hold his Daddy's hand! Priceless moments!
Harrison was usually leading the way.
Dillan and Harrison enjoying the stepping stones through a little water.
Mommy and Harrison swinging.
This boy loves his sticks and found quite a few while we were walking around.
They even had stairs. Harrison just wanted us to walk faster.
At a lookout point. Harrison already looks up to his dad.
We found a ton of lizards on the path and managed to catch a few. Harrison really liked them.
But wasn't quite sure about holding them.
So he stuck to looking at them and then chasing them with a stick. Luckily they are faster and no lizards were injured by Harrison's stick.
Checking out the "fishies" in the little pond.
Then catching some fishies later when we got home. When we went on a walk later in the day, he fell pretty bad and scraped his knees. We covered and taped one of them and then spent the rest of the day inside.
Daddy showing him the tricks of the trade.
Proud of his catch.
Then Harrison's friend came over and they played that night. We had a great Saturday. I just love to have a relaxing but fun filled day!

Happy Valentine's Day!

We had a great valentine's day and spent it outside! That hasn't happened many times in my life, but Harrison has a pretty good record. We spent some time riding bikes. Harrison loves his trike, but is not very confident with the petals. He would rather use his legs to get him there. Right now, we still stay pretty close to home.

Then we took some time to go to the park by our house. He is too funny though! Whenever he plays in the sand, he wants his shoes off. This was the first time in months that I have been able to comply and let him feel the sand between his toes!
And he loved every minute! And I love seeing those cute toes again, ready for summer!
Then Friday night, Jeff and I enjoyed a night out together. We went out for dessert and then played black light mini golf. It was fun and I got a hole in one! Then I got schooled at air hockey and ski ball. We had a great night though and we were glad to celebrate Valentine's Day ( a little late) together!
I took this picture for Harrison. The black light golf had different dinosaurs, animals and ocean life at every hole. I think we might go back with him sometime.

In no particular order...

We didn't really do anything special this last week. It was pretty laid back and we just kind of did what we normally do.

We took naps...
*And as a side note, I did move that off his face after I got the picture. He loves going to bed with books now and it really helps him stay in his bed until he finally falls asleep. I can't complain if my child loves books!

We played games...
*This is one if Harrison's favorite matching games and he is very proud of himself when he matches all the colors. Now if we could just get him to remember the names of all the colors!

We watched some shows (Team Umizoomi is a favorite). I got this robot costume on clearance and the body reminds him of the belly screen that Bot has on the show.

And we finished our week getting ready for Valentine's Day...

Harrison helped Dillan decorate her valentine's mailbox for work. He had a great time and loved all the stickers. Then he wanted to fill up the mailbox with his toys!
All in all, nothing exciting but we are really enjoying life right now! Hope everyone else is finding fun things to do too. We are excited for Valentine's Day too!

The Highs and Lows for the Week

Really the highs and lows of the weather. We had a pretty crazy week of weather in Houston this week. I am learning that a Houston winter is like spring in Chicago. You get days of warm, sunny weather and days of cold, rainy weather. We are trying to make the best of it all though! Monday was the only warm day of the week, so we spent it outside of course. Harrison loves to be outside and finds lots to do. We love the park, walks and our backyard.

Then it got colder on Tuesday so we tried to stay busy and have fun inside. We played a lot with race cars and read a lot of books. Harrison loves to play monsters too. We went to the mall playground and got to play with friends.
On Wednesday we go to the library in the morning and Harrison got to make a snowflake necklace.
Wednesday was weird because they did rolling power outages throughout the day. So about every 3 hours for 20 minutes or so we lost all power! Guess our stay inside and watch movies day will have to wait! Instead, we will just have to do funny things with our foods! I don't even know how he came up with sticking ham to his face, but he did it all by himself and he loved it.

Thursday we found out it might snow here on Friday! That actually sounded really exciting so we got a lot done on Thursday so we could stay home and hopefully play in the snow on Friday. We were starting to get a little stir crazy...
Harrison was playing with Jeff on Thursday night when I heard some laughing and then they called me to come. I walked into the laundry room and found this little present in the dryer!

At first, I laughed. I thought it was funny (and Jeff was right there next to him!) Then when we got him out, he wanted to stay in and tried climbing in himself. Although he can't close the door on himself, I still don't want him climbing in by himself, so since Daddy showed him how...Daddy got to lay down the rules of the dryer.

Then on Friday we woke up to...NO SNOW! We were not very happy! I was hoping to finally be able to get outside and do something fun. Harrison loves the snow. And Dillan even got the day off work (they closed the Day Care). But since we didn't have snow, we settled for decorating Valentines Day cookies. This was my first attempt to have a helper. It actually was a lot of fun and he didn't eat too many cookies. He did lick his knife, so he got his own knife and frosting. He ate his heart cookie the minute I put it in front of him, but then got the hang of it and frosted a second cookie.

Loves frosting the knife and then putting it in his mouth!

Saturday started out cold, but we needed to get out so I took Harrison on my morning run. We made it about 20 minutes before the poor boy could hardly feel his hands, but it felt good to get out. So, we spent the rest of the day in our PJs and played at home.
Sunday morning we got up, had breakfast and read the paper before heading to church.

All in all it was a great week! I am just so glad we live in a place that only had cold days and not cold seasons. We love to be outside soaking up the sun. We are excited to get back out next week and see what new adventures we can find!
