Austin, TX Vacation

A couple of weeks ago (April 10-12) we took off and went to Austin for a little while.  Jeff was in between jobs and was starting a new job the next week.  We knew vacation time would be limited so we decided to squeeze in a short family vacation.  And we had a great time!  Our first vacation with 2 kids and not only did we survive, we did a lot and had a great time.
We started with a trip to San Marcos Outlets.  No pictures there, but we found some good deals.

Then we finished the last 30 minute drive to Austin and checked in to our hotel.  We loved our hotel and it had an indoor/outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna and work out room.  Raegan enjoyed the time out of her car seat.
We enjoyed all of the hotels amenities.

We found a great city park that had it all.  Trails to hike.
An education center to explore the fossils, shells and other things.
 Even a cave.
 And a black bear.
The highlight was digging for dinosaur bones.  Harrison could have dug all day.  And it was free!  We were all pretty happy with all we could do.  There were some animals too.
 We visited the Texas campus.
Poor Raegan spent a lot of time in here.  I promise, she did get out of her car seat sometimes!
 And the capital.
We also found a great park to play at while Jeff played Frisbee golf.  Harrison played a few holes with his dad too.  The park also had bluebonnets.  (I'll post those pictures separate.)
We tried to go see the bats on Congress Ave. bridge.  They are supposed to fly out at dusk by the hundreds of thousands.  We probably saw about 100 total after waiting about 2 hours.
Harrison still managed to smile though.

We also explored the food.  We had some good TexMex food at Torchy's Tacos and a few other places.  We found great BBQ at a place called Rudy's.
Great frozen custard at Lickity's (and even a double decker bus to draw on and drive!)
We had a great time and our kids were troopers.  It makes me a little more ready for some of the big trips we are planning this summer.
